European Commission gathers experts to help unlock investment in affordable and sustainable housing.

On 20 October, the European Commission brought together more than 100 experts in Brussels to launch the joint working group of the Pan-European Housing Investment Platform and the Coalition for Energy Efficiency Financing, of which MOME is a member organisation.

The working group now has 18 months to produce blueprints, funding toolkits, templates and frameworks. Among the models it aims to support are co-operatives and community land trusts.

Francisco Rocha Antunes, chief executive of MOME, presented a project the company is currently developing: COLETIVA, a Portuguese affordable housing platform, which forms part of the European Plan for Affordable Housing. Under this scheme, the right of use and occupancy is permanent, and the property is kept out of the speculative market by a statutory restriction.
